MY APPROACH TO TEACHING

I would say that the main methodology that has influenced my teaching is LYT® Yoga. LYT blends the anatomical knowledge of physical therapy with the flow of traditional vinyasa. It is a core-based style of flow, where we work to find optimal engagement of the core on the mat, so that you can feel more integrated and energised off the mat.

Through my experience of teaching over the past 4 years  though, my teaching style has become my own and is more of a blend of various methodologies and my own personal style.

My main goal is helping clients to feel empowered through education, not instruction. I believe that in order for our yoga practice to truly land, we have to understand what we're doing and why we're doing it, so you'll find no 'money see, monkey do' teaching in my class. I want clients to feel and understand the anatomical groundwork that moves us, like a guidebook that you download into your own internal software. For that reason, I teach functional yoga, meaning drills, poses, and transitions that can be taken off the mat and applied to everyday movement.

There are no prerequisites as to a level of fitness, bendiness, strength, or experience that you are expected to have. You, exactly as you are, is a great place to start.

I’m a big fan of the method that I teach because of the personal benefits it has given me - from feeling physically stronger than I ever have, to alleviating what used to be chronic low back pain, to feeling mentally more confident in myself - which is why I want to share it with you.

I work with clients on a case-by-case basis where classes are tailored to the individual, however there are some foundational benefits from which all who work with me will benefit from:

Get clear about the connection between mind and body

Get in depth feedback and coaching on how to move in a way that is sustainable - on and off the mat

Build the foundations for a stronger and more anatomically aware movement practice

Improve postural alignment

WHAT CLASSES LOOK LIKE

We start with a reset. The reset works to combat any imbalances picked up in daily life, so that you are ready to start moving from a place of awareness, stability, and clarity.

The class flow is then made up of a progressive sequence that builds heat, mobility and strength through the course of 1, 2 or 3 sequences. Each pose, transition and movement builds upon the last. Flows are dynamic, energising and will change the way you move.

We finish class with a wind down and then savasana. Savasana is time for your body and mind to absorb the effects of your practice.

Whether you already have a movement practice in place or you want to try something new, students of all levels will be met where they are at with sequencing that is tailored to your level and needs.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID

If you are after someone that will listen and work with you to achieve the results you require then look no further. I initially attended the group classes at Virgin but after having my shoulder surgery I needed to try and get back into the routine and these past couple months Zhila has been helping me 1on1, and my shoulder movement and core have been getting better each day. Thanks again for all your help :)
